NEW Genuforce® Knee SupportNEW Genuforce® Knee Support

Introduction

The NEW Genuforce® Knee Support is part of an exclusive line of knee supports that combine high quality material and 3D knitted technology for therapeutic effect. The colour, design and range is new. Donjoy have used a high quality yarn for comfort and softness. This is one of various styles to answer the needs of different conditions. This knee support is soft and comfortable with bilateral flexible stay elements for minor ligament injury support during more active return to sport with control of swelling (after diagnosis of the cause of the swelling e.g. ligament sprains not lasting more than 6 weeks).

The NEW Genuforce® Knee Support is suitable for the 2 years recommended proprioceptive & neuromuscular stimulation through compression after successful rehabilitation from ACL rupture or reconstruction. The NEW Genuforce® Knee Support has stays for those athletes with a collateral ligament injury as well as a recovering ACL injury or reconstruction. It is Latex free, being constructed of Polyamide, Cotton and Lycra. It has been anatomically knitted with a multidirectional elastic fabric, with a looser knit on the patella to control minor local oedema. This offers support and compression during the rehabilitation from acute and chronic knee injury.

Indications

• Following successful rehabilitation from ACL injury or reconstruction with minor (grade 1) collateral ligament injury.
• During rehabilitation from Grade 1 ligament sprains
• Minor swelling where the diagnosis has been established
• Control of minor patella subluxation
• Control of patella subluxation in hyperlaxity syndrome
• Post operative support six weeks after patella surgery
• Proprioceptive and neuromuscular stimulation through compression

Information on Ordering

Choose the right size by marking the mid point of the patella with the patient standing in the schuss position. Measure the circumference of the thigh at 15cm above this point.

ACL Reconstruction

OrthopaedicsAndTrauma.com asked John Hardy when he used this type of knee support. John Hardy is a Consultant Knee Surgeon in London and Bristol in the UK. He told OrthopaedicsandTrauma.com: "You are correct in calling this and the Rotulax type products a support rather than a brace. There are no real bracing parts in this type of sleeve. This is important as they can be used on return to contact sports. I use these supports in patients after the healing phase of ACL Reconstruction during their 6 month rehabilitation and after when they have returned to contact competitive sport. I will use the ligament knee braces when the patient is returning to non contact sports. (Beynnon BD, Good L, Risberg MA. The effect of bracing on proprioception of knees with anterior cruciate ligament injury. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2002 Jan;32(1):11-5.). Reconstruction of a torn ACL is associated with a deficit in the threshold to detection of passive knee motion, and during the first year of healing the use of a knee sleeve provides improvement up to two years after surgery.
