Aircast® A60™ Ankle BraceAircast® A60™ Ankle Brace

Introduction

Created with the athlete in mind, the A60™ provides a winning combination of effective support and protection, comfort, and simplified application. The patent pending design incorporates a sleek stabiliser located on either side of the ankle. This stabiliser is molded at a 60 degree angle to help guard against ankle sprains and prevent rollover. Manufactured from Breath-O-Prene® material, the A60 ensures that the wearer stays comfortably cool and dry, while the light-weight anatomic design easily fits in athletic footwear without creating additional bulk. The A60™ is applied and adjusted with a single strap that securely holds it in place; replacing time-consuming lacing.

Lateral Ligament Complex Injury (ATFL, CFL, PTFL and CI)

OrthopaedicsandTrauma.com often supply the A60 to John Hardy at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital Clinic. We asked Mr Hardy about ATFL injuries and why he prescribed this brace in particular. He told OrthopaedicsandTrauma.com: "When the lateral ankle ligament complex has been torn, there is a period where the ankle is more prone to 'rolling over' or 'inversion' injuries. Occasionally, people develop a chronic weakness in the ligaments, with recurrent episodes of inversion.

John Hardy said: "A good ankle brace can be very important in preventing these inversion injuries especially when returning to high demand sports like tennis. Aircast supply the A60 Ankle Brace used by both Andy Murray and the A60 Ankle Braces used by Chris Eaton. John said that the White A60 ankle brace had been especially made for Andy at his request. He said: "The brace Andy is wearing this year is essentially the same biomechanically but white. The brace must balance comfort and ease of use with sufficient protection from roll-over. If you have ever doubted that these braces can be comfortable and enable performance watch Andy Murray play". "Often braces can be too restrictive and uncomfortable, but in my opinion the Aircast A60™ is an excellent brace for almost any sport". There is a significant reduction in recurrent injury if these type of braces are worn.

John said that: "One study showed a five fold reduction in injuries by wearing a Donjoy ankle brace (Surve I, Schwellnus MP, Noakes T, Lombard C. A fivefold reduction in the incidence of recurrent ankle sprains in soccer players using the Sport-Stirrup orthosis. Am J Sports Med. 1994 Sep-Oct;22(5):601-6.

John added "The Aircast is also an excellent adjunct to rehabilitation while recovering from lateral ligament repair surgery. I recommend it to my patients when recovering from the Brostrum reconstruction procedure."
