Knee Brace Fitting

OrthopaedicsAndTrauma.com asked Claire Callaghan for her advice on brace fitting of the Armour and similar patented four point loading braces.

Claire Callaghan is a professional physiotherapist in Bristol at Sports Medicine Clinic, University of Bristol. Claire advises patients and athletes in rehabilitation on the management of their Donjoy braces.

Claire told OrthopaedicsandTrauma.com "The advantage of the four point brace is that the brace does not impinge on the subcutaneous border of your patient's shin. Compliance is therefore good and the brace does its job at protecting the ACL in the few degrees of flexion where help is most needed". She said "If you show your patient how to put their leg through the brace but bring the hinges posterior to the knee before bringing the hinges above the knee, as in the rolling video clip, then fitting is rapid, comfortable and simple. This tip is not in the removable instruction sheet taped to the side of every brace so it is worth remembering this tip when you bring the patient back for fitting the brace they have ordered in your clinic".
