Introduction

Each Air-Stirrup® Universe™ Ankle Brace features anatomically designed shells lined with the patented Duplex™ aircell system. This exclusive system incorporates two pre-inflated overlapping aircells, distal and proximal, that provide support and produce graduated compression during ambulation. Ankle Support after Ankle Injury

Claire Callaghan, Physiotherapist at the Sports Medicine Clinic University of Bristol in the UK recommends an off the shelf and cost effective brace for patients rehabilitating in physiotherapy following ankle injury.

Claire told OrthopaedicsandTrauma.com "At the University of Bristol Sports Medicine Clinic, we see many students and local sports people with acute sprained ankles. These injuries are usually caused by ankle inversion (where the ankle tilts over to the inside) or a sudden twist. It is important to control the swelling, protect and support the ankle after injury".

She told us: "Our physios encourage patients with sprained ankles to use external support rather than taping or strapping on their injury and walk as normally as possible as this has been shown to reduce further sprains and help people return to activity and sport more quickly. We recommend the Aircast Air-stirrup Universe Ankle Brace for moderate and severe sprains, as this brace prevents the ankle rolling inwards, allowing the ligaments to heal without being overstrained and helps them walk normally".
